Why does the WooCommerce preset use WebP at 1600 px?
WordPress supports WebP and documents its compression advantage over equivalent JPEG or PNG files. WooCommerce recommends at least 800 × 800 px and says larger images are better for detailed products and zoom. A 1600 px longest-edge limit gives practical detail headroom while reducing oversized uploads. It is not a WooCommerce-mandated size; choose JPEG if your server, theme, importer or plugin cannot handle WebP.
Does this replace a WordPress image optimization plugin?
Not necessarily. This tool prepares source files before upload, while a plugin or CDN may optimize and serve additional sizes inside your store.
Will it create WooCommerce thumbnails?
No. It creates the resized source files you request. WordPress, your theme or an image plugin is responsible for generated thumbnail sizes.
Are product images sent to a server?
No. Supported images are processed locally in your browser. With folder write permission, individual results and the ZIP can be saved to that folder; without permission, the ZIP uses the browser's default download location.
What does the selected platform preset change?
WordPress supports WebP, and WooCommerce recommends at least 800 × 800 px with larger sources for detailed products. This preset uses WebP with a 1600 px longest-edge limit for gallery and zoom headroom.
How do output format, quality and longest-edge settings work?
WebP is the practical default for most storefronts; AVIF usually makes smaller files but needs platform or server support; JPEG has the widest ecommerce compatibility but usually produces larger files. Smallest prioritizes file size, Balanced is the recommended starting point, and High preserves more detail. The longest edge accepts any whole number from 32 to 15,000 px, preserves aspect ratio and never enlarges smaller images. Leave it empty to keep the original dimensions. Values above 2,048 px are allowed, but can use substantially more memory and create larger files.
